Reflected Terror

A gothic tale, says host Marshall, is “a style noted by a gloomy setting, grotesque or violent events, and an atmosphere of degeneration and decay.” Emily Falkirk faces all of these conditions when she goes to work for Joseph Coning Royston, a sad recluse living in a large, desolate mansion. He has become a victim of consuming depression since the untimely death of his beloved wife who looked, when she was alive, very much like Emily, a reflection he never wants to see again.

A quote from a Borges story says "Mirrors and copulation are abominable as they increase the number of men". The mysterious mirror takes a whole new form of terror in this Gothic tale of guilt and madness told by a young girl who enters into the service of a lord who will not allow mirrors in his manor. They force him to look at the face he once murdered - that of his wife.

A young woman works for a lord who refuses to have mirrors anywhere in his house. The mirrors terrify him because they show him the face of his wife, whom he killed. This dark story about guilt and madness explores how the lord cannot escape seeing his victim's face reflected back at him.
