The Countess

A French noblewoman tells the story of her short romance with a captured Spanish soldier and her wedding to a cruel French official.

Countess Josephine de Merret, despite her much older husband's orders, takes their newborn baby to a Parisian park where she meets a young Spanish nobleman, Carlos. It's love at first sight. Later the Count, drunk most of the time, interrupts a tryst in Josephine's bedroom. Carlos hides in a closet, and even though Josephine swears there is no one inside, the Count orders it bricked up. Then, with a gun at his side, he sets up a vigil outside the closet. If Carlos manages to get out, Josephine knows it will be the end for both of them.
