Description

Ken Carpenter runs a special radio show called "Command Performance" where he plays songs requested by American soldiers serving in other countries. The show features Johnny Mercer performing "You Got Me Where You Want Me," along with music from Selta Vega Boys and Carmen Cavallaro. Jo Stafford and Miguelito Valdés team up for "El Cumbanchero," while The Andrews Sisters sing "Begin the Beguine." The comedy team Abbott & Costello performs their famous "Who's on First?" baseball bit, and the program ends with Jo Stafford and Johnny Mercer singing together.

Command Performance was a radio program which originally aired between 1942 and 1949. The program was broadcast on the Armed Forces Radio Network (AFRS) and transmitted by shortwave to overseas troops — but with few exceptions, it was not broadcast over domestic U.S. radio stations.
