The Lost Mine

In 1860s Fort Benton, J.B. Kendall, a London Times reporter, invests in a prospector's claim of a lost gold vein. Amid doubts and dangers in the High Woods Mountains, the prospector falls ill, leaving Kendall with a single gold nugget. Confronted by local thugs, Kendall defends himself and returns to town, wiser to the harsh truths of frontier life.

A London Times reporter named J.B. Kendall puts his money into a gold hunter's story about a missing treasure vein in 1860s Fort Benton.
