Raya not only tells her lawyer, Arthur M. Stillman, about the computer, but why she was sent to Earth from the planet Serenity to kill Messenger Lawrence, an earthly religious despot. The elders of Serenity—a world without violence, only happiness and beauty—fear the spread of Lawrence’s evil throughout the universe and, much against their nature, sent Raya to kill him. Stillman can hardly believe Raya’s story, but he can’t wait to have her tell it to a jury.
