Edward Coffin and Joseph Nafferton are successful business partners and good friends. Ed, still a bachelor, has for years been having a secret affair with Joe’s wife, Melisande. When Joe’s mother informs the two that she knows of their relationship and orders Ed to leave the country—or else—Ed and Melisande work out a “clean” way of killing her. They succeed—but now they must get rid of Joe, too.
