Two years before his marriage to Pauline March, Gilbert Vaughn witnessed a murder but was spared by the killer because he was blind. Now, his eyesight restored, he has wed Pauline, who describes herself as someone with no past. Soon, Gilbert discovers that he can’t bear her condition, which sometimes makes her forget even yesterday’s events. So he investigates her past and finds, to his astonishment, that she, too, was present at the murder.
