) While staying at an ocean resort, Walter Owens, a lawyer, meets Regina Summerfield, a philosophical but strange woman who invites him to her mansion to meet her husband, Everett. Owens soon realizes that Everett was killed at Pearl Harbor, although Mrs. Summerfield still talks to him, and the “mansion” is a dilapidated old house. But when Mrs. Summerfield’s niece tries to have her committed to an institution and take her house, Owens attempts to defend the eccentric lady, and it’s her strange childhood that provides the key to her defense.
