When Joe Dawson can’t find a job, two hoods offer to let him in on their get-rich-quick scheme, providing he invest a grand. So Joe goes to his wealthy but miserly Uncle Frank to ask for a loan, but becomes outraged by his uncle’s patronizing attitude and is overheard by neighbors as he threatens to kill him. Shortly after returning home with the money, Joe is arrested for robbing and murdering his uncle. But Joe swears that when he left his uncle he was alive—a story only his mother believes.
